SPRING FOOTBALL PRACTICE OPENS WITH EXCITEMENT AND ANTICIPATION – “We all feel that we’re just getting started and our best football is in the coming years ahead of us and it starts with the 2020 season” – Mario Cristobal
Nowadays the excitement around Oregon football can certainly be likened to opening day in Major League Baseball.
The excitement of a new season.
The anticipation of new players and what they’ll add to the roster.
And certainly the angst of the challenge that lies ahead and the prospect of winning a championship.
That all began Thursday morning when the 2020 edition of the Oregon Ducks began spring football practice.
After a rigorous off season winter training program, the Ducks gathered inside the Moshofsky Center for the first of fifteen practices which culminates with the annual spring game on Saturday April 18th.
“It’s on” said head coach Mario Cristobal.
“2020 Ducks, first impression,…the physicality of our football team, which is always going to be a point of emphasis, showed. Their conditioning showed up. We look faster,…and certainly on defense we look like a veteran defense in the way that we run around,…the way that we get our communication established.
And offensively, these guys have really taken to a new system very quickly,… and I saw a lot of really good things day one.”
With fifteen allowable practices, which includes the spring game, Cristobal and his staff have a clear understanding of what they want to get accomplished over the next seven weeks.
“It’s always going to start with the culture and making sure this team has learned – and we do it through the winter conditioning program, on how to handle success.” explained Cristobal.
It’s been a little while since a Rose Bowl and all of a sudden you get it and all you hear and all you see are t-shirts and hats and great highlights. It’s staying hungry, humble and driven and making sure that technique and fundamentals,…relentless effort, execution are at the forefront of everything we do.
It’s all about Oregon right now,…not about any opponent and what not,…but understanding that everything we do now will have a direct reflection on how we show up against North Dakota State on opening day, and the rest of the season.”
NEXT UP; Oregon practice No. 2 is Saturday March 7th at 1:00 PM.
