MARIO CRISTOBAL TALKS CIVIL WAR WIN AND TEAM PROGRESS – “We feel really good about the direction we’re heading and how fast we’re headed there”
For Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal, the progress of his team is made in incremental steps.
Two seasons ago, the Ducks were embarrassed in Corvallis and called soft. This year, the Ducks completely dominated the Civil War and blasted the Beavers right out of their own stadium.
Last year, the Washington Huskies swarmed the Ducks in a 38-3 win, while this season Oregon came back and beat the 16th ranked Huskies 30-27 in overtime.
The trend is moving upward for the Ducks and Cristobal is pleased at what he’s seeing.
“I hate to bring it up again, but I read so many articles about shiny raincoats and all that other stuff and I’m like what are we talking about here guys” explained Cristbal Friday after the game when asked about the upward swing of his team.
“Oregon gives up a 10 point lead ( 2016 ) and being accused of,…a football player never wants to be accused of being soft. Those words they dig pretty deep now and those things aren’t forgotten so easily. So that was a huge point of emphasis.
As it relates to progress and what not, I see a team that two years ago,… that,….a year ago a Washington game that is just a blowout is now a victory in our favor,…a Stanford game that could have gone either way in overtime,…there’s just a ton of progress going on with our football team.”
