JUSTIN HERBERT NAMED DAVEY O’BRIEN AWARD SEMI-FINALIST – Herbert Joins 16 Nominees For Prestigious Post Season Award
FORT WORTH, Texas – Coming of his seventh performance of the season with multiple touchdown passes, Oregon junior quarterback Justin Herbert was named one of 16 semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien Award Wednesday morning.
The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the best college quarterback, and is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award.
Herbert’s streak of 24 consecutive games with a TD pass is the longest in the nation, as the Eugene, Ore., product has already been named a Maxwell Award semifinalist and is on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Manning Award Watch List.
Herbert ranks 11th nationally and second in the Pac-12 with 22 touchdown passes and has completed 59 percent (173-of-292) of his passes for 2,333 yards on the year. Oregon scored 40 points for the 12th time in Herbert’s 24 career starts during last weekend’s win over UCLA in which he became the fastest player in program history to reach 6,000 career passing yards in terms of starts.
Heading into Saturday’s game at Utah, Herbert has 19 TD passes and just two interceptions in nine career games on the road in Pac-12 action. In Oregon’s win at Utah in 2016, Herbert threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns, highlighted by a 17-yard TD strike with two seconds left for the 30-28 victory.
