Like a kid on Christmas, new defensive coordinator Don Pellum is excited to take the wrapping off of his team and see what’s actually there.
For the last four weeks, Pellum and his defensive unit have learned schemes, put in dozens of hours of hard work and battled each other in scrimmages and now he says it’s time to see if his squad is ready to show what they’ve learned and practiced.
“It’s very difficult for me to assess or compare this team,..this defensive unit to last years defensive unit” explained Pellum Thursday when asked to describe this years squad to last years team.
“I think we’re in a real good place as a defense and really excited to see the players on Saturday get out and play and actually play someone and see what it really looks like.”
As for expectations, there’s a mountain of them for Pellum as he takes the reigns from long time coordinator Nick Aliotti.
“The things we’d like to see as a staff is one,…we communicate well,…two we get great leverage on the ball and three we tackle really well” said Pellum when asked about expectations.
“If we get those three things it’s going to eliminate big plays,..it’s going to eliminate explosion plays and should give us the chance to start and build some momentum moving forward.”
