Just 48 hours before the 2014 season opener and everything seems a ‘go’ for second year head coach Mark Helfrich and his No. 3 ranked Oregon Ducks.
Oregon practiced inside of Autzen Stadium Thursday morning and afterward during his press briefing, Helfrich said his team is ready to play Saturday evening when the Ducks take the field against FCS visitor South Dakota.
“The way the guys have worked,…the way the veteran guys have coached the younger guys” said Helfrich when asked about his confidence level for Saturdays opener.
“This group of young guys,…is the best,..kind of the most advanced that I’ve ever been around,..and that’s encouraging.
A huge compliment considering Helfrich has seen some extremely talented football players during his time in Eugene.
That said, the real test will occur when the lights come on and the pre-game clock winds to zero Saturday at 7:30 pm.
“I think our mindset’s good” said Helfrich.
“There’s guys who are amped up today, but the game isn’t today….the games Saturday night,…and Saturday’s a long day and we try to fill that with as much stuff that kind of helps calm them down,..but aiming at that kickoff time.”
