FALL CAMP 2014 – OREGON OFFICIALLY ENDS FALL CAMP WITH FINAL SCRIMMAGE – Helfrich Complimentary of Teams Energy and Intensity
Thursday was the official close of fall football camp for the pre-season ranked ( No. 3 ) Oregon Ducks.
And to close out this years camp, head coach Mark Helfrich and staff held the teams final full pad scrimmage inside of Autzen Stadium to help clarify team and position battles before the season officially begins August 30th against South Dakota.
“This afternoon, tonight and tomorrow are all kind of big picture evaluation type of discussions both as a staff and with the individuals” explained Helfrich after Thursdays workout when asked about the next several days and creating a depth chart.
“There’s generally two kinds of categories that freshman go into….either you’re playing or you’re red-shirting. And then there’s a few guys every year,…Jake Pisarcik was the guy last year that was just kind of on the ready list and pick him up off the waiver wire if something happened last year,…and you try to have as few a guys as possible in that situation.”
Last week during the teams first scrimmage, Helfrich described the teams effort as ‘sluggish’ particularly pointing to the offense because of the units ‘slow start.’
On Thursday, Helfrich described the teams effort as much better.
“I liked our energy a lot better today” said Helfrich.
“Our intensity right off the bat was markedly different than it was last week and that was a positive sign. Offense definitely got off to a better start than the defense did but then again as the day went on the defense made a few plays here and there to kind of right the ship so to speak,…but competitive overall.”
