With fall finals now in the rear-view mirror, the No. 10 Oregon Ducks returned to practice Saturday morning to continue their preparations for the Texas Longhorns in the upcoming Valero Alamo Bowl.
Looking more like grizzly Adams than his normal baby faced self, Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota stepped in front of the cameras after Saturday’s workout to field questions about his teams upcoming trip to San Antonio.
Before beginning however, Mariota took a bit of ribbing from reporters about his scruffy appearance and blamed it on excessive studying.
When asked about the beard, Mariota laughed and immediately thought about his family.
“My mom’s probably going to see this video and make me shave” said Mariota.
The questions quickly turned though to more important topics.
Mariota, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, was asked if he was envious of in-state rival Oregon State because of the Beavers invitation to play in Hawaii for their post season bowl game.
“Not at all” said Mariota.
“It’s kind of funny because I have a high school teammate who plays on the Beavers and it’s kind of a homecoming for him so…they’ll have an awesome time. I know the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl’s a good deal. I remember growing up and watching those games,..it’s kind of a cool thing for them.”
Mariota also discussed the teams focus now that finals are complete and provided a bit more insight as to why he decided to remain at Oregon rather than declare early for the NFL draft.
