As the balloons fell from the ceiling of the Alamo Dome Monday night, I couldn’t help but wonder if a small part of Nick Aliotti wanted to put off his pending retirement considering what his unit just did to an extremely talented Texas football team.
One things for sure, watching Aliotti celebrate after the trophy presentation, he took great pride in the win and making sure the media knew he was still capable of drawing up a scheme to stop the run – something the Ducks struggled with in the last third of the season.
“You know what we did? We stopped the run!’’ Aliotti screamed when he saw a group of reporters at mid field.
“Big game. That’s what we do. Sometimes you just get sick of hearing it.”
The No. 10 Ducks held the Longhorns to just 55 rushing yards in the second half while also keeping them out of the end zone propelling Oregon to its 30-7 win.
“Very happy to send Nick out on the right note” said Oregon coach Mark Helfrich in his post game comments.
“I think his guys were playing for themselves, certainly playing for him,…after being a much maligned group these last weeks, coming up huge. Finishing it, book ending it with pick sixes.”
