Always one to be generous with his time, Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota met with reporters Saturday afternoon to discuss next Thursday’s clash with No. 5 Stanford.
Of course, the primary topic of this press briefing was last season’s devastating 17-14 loss to the Cardinal and what lesson’s Mariota may have learned from that defeat.
“Last year, a lot of times we were really hesitant on what we were seeing” explained Mariota.
“If we really just focus on our assignments,…and make sure that,..we’ve got to focus on our keys and eventually we’ll be ok. We just have to make sure we execute.”
And while, Mariota….and the entire team, are saying all the right things regarding next Thursday’s match-up in Palo Alto, it’s still obvious last years overtime loss to the Cardinal still has a lingering effect a year later.
Asked if he learned anything from that game, Mariota nodded yes and said ‘definitely.’
“When you experience it, it helps you not fear it. There’s a lot of times when you go out there and you fear failure,… and that’s not the way you should play football. I think getting that out of my system,..being able to go through that, it really just kinda helped me this year.”
