Oregon senior linebacker Boseko Lokombo is one of the stabilizing forces on the Ducks defense.
Not only does Lokombo have to focus on the run and pass rush, he’s also asked to drop into coverage.
At 6’3 – 230 lbs, Lokombo has the size, speed and athletic ability to do all three exceptionally well.
He’s what most defensive coaches would describe as a hybrid defender.
In two games, Lokombo has accumulated 10 tackles, 1 pass break up and 2 quarterback hurries.
Most importantly, Lokombo enters his senior season with ( BCS ) big game experience that includes the Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl and also includes a split second working grasp of Nick Aliott’s defensive scheme.
“I feel like just the fact that I’m naturally athletic that allows me to make plays that not everybody can make” Lokombo said during fall camp.
“Let’s say I do mess up or something happens. I can cover based on my athleticism.”
Lokombo’s superior play not only shows up on the field, but it also inspires his teammates to be better.
“With his athletic ability sometimes some of us have to step back and be like,…all right maybe I’ve got to use more technique than he does” said backup LB Tyson Coleman.”
“…just because he’s such a superior athlete to a lot of people.”
