OREGON ARRIVES IN PHOENIX: Hundreds of Fans Welcome the Ducks to the Desert

Right on schedule and on a beautiful sunny day, the Oregon Ducks landed just before 2 pm local time this afternoon at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix.

The United Airlines charter pulled into the executive charter area to rousing cheers from hundreds of fans holding welcome signs and a mariachi band playing traditional latin music.

As the players, coaches and family members left the plane, fans and staff members of the 42nd Annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl lined along the red carpet to give high fives, hand shakes and welcome messages to the arriving Oregon contingent.

Once the team deplaned, Fiesta Bowl Chairman Steve Whiteman welcomed the Oregon team and staff inside of the Fiesta Bowl tent which was set up adjacent to the tarmac where the team charter parked.

With the 2013 Fiesta Bowl trophy and team helmets used as a backdrop, Whiteman introduced Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens who spoke briefly to the media and welcome committee.

“We’re just so happy to be here” said Mullens. “It’s so nice to get off the plane and see so many friendly faces and waving fans.”

Mullens ended his brief remarks by referencing one of the more important items on his week long agenda.

“We’re looking forward to eating a lot of Tostitos.”

More later from Chip Kelly’s 5:00 pm press conference.
